The Souvay Memorial Library, in partnership with the MOBIUS Consortium, is migrating to a new catalog system (FOLIO), which will go online on May 22, 2024.
The current system used by Kenrick and most of our MOBIUS partner libraries (Sierra) is over 20 years old and is increasingly obsolete. FOLIO, however, is a new, open-source, state-of-the-art platform that will allow our libraries to develop new resources and services, and will maintain Kenrick's ability to take full advantage of our membership in one of the world's great library consortia: MOBIUS gives us access to 25 million volumes across 80 different partner libraries.
This migration has been in planning for nearly two years, but we are now entering its most intensive phase: MOBIUS borrowing will temporarily cease on April 17, 2024, the new catalog system will go online on May 22, and our current catalog will be completely retired on June 30.
We are rapidly approaching the time when library services will be temporarily impacted by this transition. This guide offers important information to help you understand how library services will be impacted, especially in April and May. We have included here a timeline of essential dates to remember and an FAQ page.
If you have any questions or concerns whatsoever, please bring them to the library director, Dr. David Morris. Dr. Morris is a current member of the MOBIUS Board of Directors, the governing body of the consortium, and can relay any issues directly to the board or to the MOBIUS Central Office. Our library will accommodate your special needs and situations in any way we can. We will also keep you apprised of any changes or updates as quickly as possible.
April 17: On this date:
April 29: All MOBIUS audiovisual materials must be returned.
May 6: The current checkout system will go offline. All subsequent checkouts and renewals of Kenrick books will be manually recorded until the new system goes live on May 22.
May 17: The official due date for all Kenrick and MOBIUS books. If you need to keep Kenrick books past that date, please let the library know, so we can manually record it. MOBIUS books must be returned by that date, however.
May 22: The new catalog goes online: normal checkout and MOBIUS borrowing both resume.
June 30: The old catalog is deactivated and no longer available.
