Each resource listed in this guide will include one of the following icons:

 

                              Open Access: This is an online resource that is freely available and does not require an institutional login.

 

                              KGS Login: This is an online resource open only to affiliates of Kenrick-Glennon Seminary. Access from off-campus will require a login through OpenAthens.     

 

                              KGS Print: This is a print resource available in the Souvay Memorial Library. Click on the link to see the item's current status, location, and call number. Most items listed under "Essential Readings" in the LibGuides will appear in current and recent Kenrick syllabi, and will have a copy in our reference section.

 

  MOBIUS Print: This is a print resources that is not available at Kenrick but that can be requested through MOBIUS. 

 

  Internet Archive:  The Internet Archive has a digital copy of this book.  It is completely free to read online, but you will need to set up a personal account, through which you "check out" (get temporary access) to the e-book.  Kenrick alumni and non-Kenrick patrons can also freely access these volumes once they set up their own accounts.    

 

Online Bibles

New American Bible, Revised Edition (USCCB)    

  • Released in 2011, the New American Bible, Revised Edition (NABRE) is the culmination of nearly 20 years of work by a group of nearly 100 scholars and theologians, including bishops, revisers and editors. The NABRE includes a newly revised translation of the entire Old Testament (including the Book of Psalms) along with the 1986 edition of the New Testament. The NABRE is a formal equivalent translation of Sacred Scripture, sponsored by the Confraternity of Christian Doctrine, using the best manuscripts available.

 

Academic Bible  

  • The leading website for academic Bible study. It provides free access to the original Bible texts in Greek and Hebrew, published by the German Bible Society, in addition to English and German Bible translations. 

 

Bible Gateway  

  • Bible Gateway is a searchable online Bible in more than 200 versions and 70 languages that you can freely read, research, and reference anywhere. 

 

Recommended Print Bibles

These Bibles are recommended in course syllabi and are available in the library's print collection.

Word on Fire Bible: The Gospels 

  • The four Gospels surrounded by illuminating artwork and helpful commentary from Bishop Robert Barron, the Church Fathers, and some of the greatest saints, mystics, artists, and scholars throughout history, allowing the story of Jesus Christ to shine with new clarity and splendor. The translation used in The Word on Fire Bible is the New Revised Standard Version: Catholic Edition (NRSV-CE), which has received wide acclaim from academics and Church leaders.

 

Word on Fire Bible: Acts, Letters, and Revelation 

  • This volume picks up the story of the early Church. It includes the Acts of the Apostles, the Letters of the New Testament, and the book of Revelation. The biblical text is surrounded by illuminating artwork and helpful commentary from Bishop Robert Barron, the Church Fathers, and some of the greatest saints, mystics, artists, and scholars throughout history.

 

The Great Adventure Catholic Bible   

  • Developed by Jeff Cavins, each book of this Bible is color-coded with a thumb index, indicating where it belongs within the Great adventure Catholic Bible timeline. Twelve timeline charts provide a visual overview of the Bible, including: important characters, key events, geography, major covenants, world rulers, and contemporary events in secular history. Twelve articles give a summary and explanation of each period of salvation history. Seven articles introduce and explain the major covenants of salvation history. Seventy key event call-outs provide a brief description of the milestones in the biblical narrative.

 

Ignatius Catholic Study Bible: The New Testament    

  • This volume brings together all of the books of the New Testament and the penetrating study tools developed by renowned Bible teachers Dr. Scott Hahn and Curtis Mitch.
